Selena
She was a musician, singer-performer, and designer who broke through barriers in the industry. She was Mexican-American, but also traditional. She brought Tejano into mainstream music. It was an emerging star but her sudden death broke it. It is also the case when a brilliant, genial young performer is lost too quickly, many mourned the potential that she could not yet attain. To stop her successes from going unnoticed many of her fans in these past few time have been inspired to do even more. The tragic death of Selena by a gunman triggered the outpouring of emotions within Latino communities, similar the way people reacted following the death of Elvis Presley and John Lennon's. She was an incredibly well-known singer for Latinos across North America. But her music touched both the young and old. Selena may have been hailed by some as an Latina Madonna, however she is still a great role model. Selena's family values off stage and her participation in AIDS awareness efforts make her a good example.
